A mala prayer and meditation necklace can be of different sizes and lengths and traditionally consists of 108 individual beads . It is usually made from natural products, although in Buddhism bodhi tree wood beads are also popular because Buddha attained enlightenment under a bodhi tree. Held in the hands, the mala is used to count the mantras recited, the individual beads gently moving through the fingers: always 108 times like a prayer or a blessing, a mantra. The mala is worn around the neck or wrist. It has become a fashionable accessory as well as a symbolic and everyday piece of jewelry!
